I am writing these words on Saturday, May 4th, and were he still alive, my brother Andrew would have been celebrating his 40th birthday. I've tried not to imagine, in the years since he died, how the life he didn't get to live might have been. Who he would have become if he'd lived to manhood. In the stories I tell my children about him, he is eternally 7 years old, with a cheeky smile and mischievous twinkle in his eyes. Brave. Kind. Strong. Courageous. And always making people laugh.
